What Is Dissociative Identity Disorder? 
Dissociative Identity Disorder (also known as DID) is a condition where a person develops one or more alternate personalities that function with or without the awareness of the person’s usual personality.

Dissociative Identity Disorder is very complex and can be easily misunderstood. Many people have heard of “multiple personalities” but do not know the causes of it or details. Dissociative Identity Disorder can be caused by things like a traumatizing childhood, abuse and etc.

Symptoms
Note: These are only a few symptoms. There are other ones but not all can be included.
• Exhibition of two or more personalities. (alters)
• Out of character behavior.
• Memory loss.
• Feeling unreal (derealization)
• Identity confusion.
• Depression.
• Mood swings.
• High levels of anxiety.
• Hallucinations.

How To Get Help
There are different things you can do to try to combat DID:
• Psychotherapy.
• Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
• Family therapy.
• Creative therapies.
• Clinical hypnosis.
• Dialectic-behavior therapy.

Facts About Dissociative Identity Disorder
• Most people with DID aren’t diagnosed until they are adults.
• DID is sometimes misdiagnosed as something else.
• DID and Schizophrenia have similarities within each other but aren't the same. There has been misconception that they are the same disorder.
• In 1791, the first account of dissociative identity disorder was recorded and studied.
